The Artist...
Jenny Shanahan's major interests lie with land and body forms which are the inspiration for most of her work in which she produces vital and emotional responses using vibrant colour and varied mark making to stimulate an atmospheric reaction which is non representational containing an element of magical realism.
Jenny has been painting for fifteen years beginning with a two year course at the Open College of Art, at the end of which one of her paintings was selected to be hung at their annual exhibition at Central St. Martins College of Art and Design in 1995. After moving to Dorset she spent a number of years with Roger Vincent studying lifedrawing and subsequently she joined John Skinner at Abbotsbury Studios and became part of the group of artists known as the Seventh Wave.
In 2002 Jenny opened her own studio as part of Dorset Art Weeks and has continued to attract interest from frequent visitors on an open studio basis.
Since 2002 Jenny has been a regular participator in Dorset Art Weeks and has been involved in a number of exhibitions.
When she is not busy in her studio, Jenny is immersed in other creative activity, including gardening, dressmaking and interior design.
